Blending in... by Somebody-Somewhere
Blending in...
This magpie was chasing a bone from a chicken wing around the tree stump. It saw me and pulled this pose, like it was trying to hide :)

Hidden in green
Hiding amongst the leaves, I came across a rather talkative parakeet. Unlike most parakeets, this one seemed quite interested in me (most just fly off). Spent about 10mins watching each other, and it became very talkative again when I walked off... making me feel rather bad :(

Another, more amusing, shot of the same parakeet:

Love this shot... though would have preferred the cygnet in front to be slightly more to the right of the picture...
Hi everyone!

Sorry for my inactiveness the last 11 months or so... A mixture of work, gym, socialising, trying to enjoy nice days by being outdoors and a very slow laptop have squeezed my time and this site has had to give a bit. However, I have tried to get on here occasionally as I love seeing the latest works of all you guys :)

As the nights draw in and the weather turns cold and grey, I think I'm going to be a bit more active again. I also invested a little bit in my computing equipment, which means I am now on a lookout for a suitable photo editor. I therefore have two questions:
1) What photo-editing software do you use / would you recommend?
2) What tweaks do you generally do to photos?
I think it's best I give a bit more context to help!
I have done some minor tweaks to photos in the past using paint shop pro 8. Main things I've tweaked are brightness, contrast and saturation, with a little bit of clarity thrown in too.
I've recently downloaded a trial of paint shop pro X7, and am rather liking it. I'm still sticking to the same things, but am in addition using a shadows / midtone setting too. However, I want to understand what other people use, how they use it and why they use it. I'm not looking to pay more than £100 upfront, but think that should be fine due to the limited stuff I do in the editor.
I'm also aware that by sticking to certain settings, I might be over limiting myself - so want to know what settings / adjustments you make to photos. I have tried others settings, but haven't got my head around what they do, or why I'd need it!

Any information would be awesome! I'll look to upload something soon-ish to show final results, and get feedback on how my tweaks look!

Thank you in advance,

P.S. When I last looked, I had ~9,300 views. I now have 11,500! Thank you :)

Hi, I'm Claire!

I've recently graduated from University. Photography is a hobby of mine and I strive to improve myself as I go. I've only had very basic training on how to use a DSLR, so most of it is intuition, self teaching and tips from others. My main focus is on wildlife, particularly (local) birds, though I sometimes try my hand at landscape and architecture too.

Advice on how to improve my shots is more than welcome :)
